Building Refresh

The School of Social Welfare was located in the university’s former hospital, with dark woodwork that made the foyer feel very gloomy, bare white walls, and small, repurposed spaces like X-ray viewing rooms and pharmacy windows in the lobby. Since there were no classrooms, students rarely visited the building. To make the space more inviting, I aimed to add comfortable, functional furniture and wayfinding signage to help students navigate the building more easily. I also wanted to update the mural in the foyer, originally part of a capital campaign, to match the new design. Initially, a design firm with experience remodeling university and athletic buildings was hired to develop a proposal, but the dean was not satisfied with their concepts. She then asked me to create designs, and I was honored when she chose to use mine.

Room Design

After designing the logo for Blue Valley Schools’ Career Ready Program and OPFD partnership, I was asked to create the classroom layout for their Training Center. I incorporated square elements from the strategic plan design I created, using a blend of vinyl, metal, and glass to complement the existing artwork printed on metal throughout the building.

Promotional Items

Promotional items are a key tool for showcasing your brand, offering a tangible way to leave a lasting impression on your audience. These items serve as constant reminders of your brand’s identity, values, and message, helping to increase recognition and foster loyalty. From apparel to office supplies, promotional products allow your brand to stand out in both functional and creative ways. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to design a wide range of promotional items, each tailored to reflect the unique identity and goals of the organizations I’ve represented.

Designed Collateral

To stand out among the many universities hiring, I crafted tailored position descriptions. I personally designed these materials, created postcards and direct mail pieces, and assisted with faculty recruitment efforts. Below are just a few highlights.

Visits

Normally, we host faculty candidates for a two-day campus visit, scheduling meetings and events as part of the interview process. However, in 2021, due to COVID restrictions, we moved the interviews online. Concerned that candidates wouldn’t get a true sense of our culture through virtual visits, we decided to create a video that showcased various aspects of the school, adding a personal touch to the Zoom schedule. I coordinated with different departments to film their segments over Zoom, as we were still working remotely, and then compiled everything into a welcome video sent to candidates before their virtual visit.
